Data traffic at peak grew on our broadband networks by 27% - remote working became the norm, learning tools like Microsoft Teams were used and videos were streamed. And on mobile by 22% as some used wireless broadband (which runs on the mobile network)to do the same.

Today we experienced call volumes beyond any level of calling ever seen in NZ. These are unprecedented times and our industry has been working fast to ease voice calling congestion for our customers. For now internet options like Skype, Facetime or WhatsApp are great alternatives

We’ll also continue our work to connect New Zealanders who are currently digitally excluded by relaunching Jump; our subsidised and not-for-profit broadband product, at a lower price and for a wider range of people who do not currently have access to broadband at home. 3/3

Removing overage charges applies to SME/ME & consumer customers. Customers experiencing hardship can get in touch to discuss their circumstances & options. We’ll be monitoring our network to manage traffic & ensure a good experience for all as we make these changes. 2/3

To keep our customers & NZ connected during COVID-19, from 23/02 for an initial 60-day period we'll be removing overage charges for those on data-capped broadband plans & introducing more options for those experiencing hardship such as waiving late fees. 1/3
