A program with no documentation does not tell me 1) What problem you are trying to solve 2) Why you wrote the code 3) How you wrote the code

"what problem would you solve if you knew you'd succeed" "WELL ... [ten minutes later]" "Why aren't you trying to solve it? I'm assuming there's a >0% chance you'll make progress?" ...pay attention to the answers here. you'll learn a ton about assumptions, beliefs, etc.

@Carnage4Life @rakyll Having stayed at my current job for longer than any previous gig, I am finally starting to see the impacts of decisions made 3-4 years prior. I regret pretty much all “magic”, “clever”, and “new tech” solutions I helped implement. I don’t regret any simple boring solutions.

Check out this article @sohamsankaran, @NAChristakis and I wrote about an RCT we did. We find that showing pictures of beaches with articles describing the COVID-19 pandemic can make some (~6%) people rate beaches as riskier than restaurants. https://t.co/pFSWbaMZoU

This exposes a problem with education. It raises the possibility that too many people have been taught procedural learning, not model-based learning. PL: This is what you are supposed to do to get this result. MBL: This is how it works. You figure it out. https://t.co/O67oVL3xvL

But that understanding has to happen somewhere. All we are doing is offloading the work onto other people to do without our help (including future-us). Alternatively we just stumble on with unclear code that maybe only one person, at one time ever really understood. 2/2
