Des Moines Register caucus endorsements: 1988 R: Dole (won caucus) 1988 D: Simon (lost) 1996 R: Dole (w) 2000 R: Bush (w) 2000 D: Bradley (L) 2004 D: Edwards (L) 2008 R: McCain (L) 2008 D: Clinton (L) 2012 R: Romney (L) 2016 R: Rubio (L) 2016 D: Clinton (w) 2020 D: Warren (?)

An editorial board is not supposed to anticipate a winner, nor do they have much influence anymore. Worth nothing that In July 2015 the DSM Register called on Trump to drop out - ‘pull the plug on his bloviating sideshow.’

“I feel like this year everyone has been talking about how Iowa is super-white, but it’s really not super-white to me,” said Ms. Marcano-Kelly, who petitioned the state Democratic Party to create caucus sites in Spanish. “I see Latinos everywhere.”

NEWS: There are ZERO Democrat-on-Democrat attack ads in Iowa! That’s a turnabout from the feisty 2016 GOP TV campaign there.

Why attend an Iowa caucus in Cedar Rapids when you can do it from Tbilisi? It almost time for caucusing in the Caucasus! https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/23/us/politics/iowa-satellite-caucus-tbilisi.html …

Iowa essentials: sweet corn, tailgating, and caucuses. 🌽🍔🗳️ #11days #IACaucus “Maybe I’ll get some Florida sweet corn. I can do like before a football game and have some grills set up outside.”

A few hours after Cory Booker dropped out last week, Pete Buttigieg called his top Iowa endorsers. For some of them, it was a "gut punch" amid a "grieving period." A look at how personal & raw this race has been and will be for losing camps in two weeks: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/rubycramer/pete-buttigieg-iowa-endorsers …

The "grieving period" is a very real phenomenon in Iowa and there's an etiquette surrounding it.

Most Midwestern detail: Minnesotan Phill Drobnick, who coached the 2018 Olympic gold medal-winning men’s curling team, is campaigning in Iowa as an @amyklobuchar surrogate during the impeachment trial. @llerer @CoachPhill

Stuck in the Senate as Their 2020 Rivals Have Iowa to Themselves

While their rivals are sprinting around Iowa, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar and Michael Bennet are in their Senate seats, unable to see or be seen by hundreds of voters they'd normally be courting

Aides to Ms. Warren said she had left the Capitol at 2 a.m., after spending the previous twelve hours in near silence in the trial. In Iowa, Mr. Buttigieg’s day ended around 10 p.m. Over the course of nearly 12 hours, he’d addressed nearly 1,800 voters.

What the incident seems to have done is bring gender back to the front of the race. Elizabeth Warren is leaning into it. Hillary Clinton is talking about. And some women voters -- they're voting on it, though perhaps not in the way you'd expect.

Last week, I very confidently told @jmartNYT that the Warren-Sanders debate stage spat would have little impact on the race. I was wrong. (kind of.)

Also in the new CNN poll this morning: “While only 9% of men say a women could not win the U.S. presidency, that figure about doubles among women, 20% of whom say no, a woman cannot win the presidency.”

NEWS: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has filed a defamation lawsuit against Hillary Clinton for alleging she’s a “Russian asset.”

Hmmm...Hillary Clinton pops back up in the news - for reasons that have nothing to do with Gabbard - and Tulsi Gabbard moves forward with her long-discussed lawsuit.
